Spring Time!

As the snow melts and the air warms, my mind drifts to the warmer greener days of mid April and the majestic sound of a lonesome gobbler breaking the silent dark morning.  It's almost here and I'm pumped.  On a recent trip to our lease we were able to frost seed both our clover plots, establish 3 new mineral sites and get new cameras out on each one.  The best part was finding 2 roost sites and some major scratching ground where the birds have been hanging out in the afternoons.  We built a new ground blind (if you can call it that) it was 45 feet long and 20 feet deep, we used 2 huge cedar tops that broke off during the last few snow storms and built them up as the front and then surrounded the rest with all branches and tied in the surrounding bushes and green briars.  We can literally drive the cart right in the back and leave it there as we hunt.  We will cut gun ports through the under brush as the blind is 5 feet high all the way around.  The best part is a nice cedar right in the middle where we can strap on a seat and camera arm to film from.  The camera man will have a slightly higher, yet perfectly concealed point to catch all the action.  This plot sits in between both roost sights and will be be full of fresh green clover come spring, the perfect spot to catch a couple old jelly heads picking up their herrom for their morning exercises.  We hope to bow hunt from this spot primarily with the option to run and gun in any direction should we need to chase a stubborn bird down with the 12 gauge.  I have bad about posting my videos to the blog so if you have missed them on Facebook you can go to my YouTube channel and see any you've missed.  Can't wait to hang up a few long birds on an ole pine tree!!!
